TRANX 500PG Baitcast

The Shimano Tranx 500PG provides anglers with a new design in reels not yet seen on kiwi shores, it combines the comfort and castability of a low profile baitcaster and the capacity and drag power of a more conventional overhead reel.

Shimano has packed this weapon with some of its greatest features, namely X ship with its bearing supported pinion gear and HEG gearing provide immense cranking power unrivalled by its competitors. X-ship also eliminates friction between the pinion gear and spool shaft, enabling tremendous free spool for super long casts. Tranx also feature a VBS cast control system allowing the angler to fine tune the reels casting, has seven shielded ARB bearings, Dartanium Drag that outputs an impressive 11kg of drag and comes with a ergonomic Power handle.

This reel is a must for any dedicated angler looking for the performance characteristics of a top end low profile baitcaster with the power and capacity of a medium overhead reel.

HEG consists of not only the gears, but also the frame, setplate, and handle-side sideplate. First we increased the size of the drive gear and the pinion gear to offer increased leverage and power. By using a one-piece frame that incorporates the setplate and adding a one-piece stamped sideplate, we have eliminated flex in the drivetrain that causes normal gears to bind under pressure. By eliminat...
The Super Free bearing-supported pinion gear system (SF) was designed to eliminate friction on the spool shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft, creating friction and limiting the length of the cast. With SF, the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing, and when the clutch is di...
VBS uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast. The individual brake weights, when turned on, are forced outward at the beginning of the cast when backlashes most often occur, causing friction that reduces the speed of the spool. Once the spool speed begins to slow, the pressure lessens, allowing the spool to continue spinning. The result is a much more consistent sp...
Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way bearing that eliminates backplay. This provides the angler with instant hooksetting power. In some reels, the Super Stopper II can be turned off to allow backreeling for special techniques and situations.
By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with our S-ARB bearings and integrating a bigger drive gear, Shimano increased the gearing efficiency and power. This results in a fishing reel with ultra-light handle rotation, giving a perfect rotation even under heavy loads.
After the anodisation process is finished, a second layer of surface treatment is added. This treatment is forced into the remaining surface impurities. This gives salt no hideout and also results in an extremely smooth to-the-touch finish. A reel with E.I. treatment has more than double the corrosion resistance of a standard anodised reel.
Dartanium is a special drag material that provides a wider range of drag settings and the smoothest performance on the market.
